Best Things To Do on Moorea

Moorea is a fantastic destination for travelers visiting French Polynesia as it offers an abundance of land-based and water-based activities. Here’s a few recommendations of Moorea tours and excursions we and our clients have enjoyed:

Belvedere Lookout

Moorea Belvedere Lookout

No Moorea vacation would be complete without a visit to the Belvedere lookout. This location near the top of Mt. Belvedere has great views the North side of Moorea, including Cook’s Bay and Opunohu Bay. You can get to the lookout via rental car or via a guided tour. On, your way up, be sure to check out the ancient Polynesian ruins and stop by the Opunohu Agricultural School for some refreshments.

Tiki Village Cultural Center

Moorea Tiki Village

The Tiki Village Cultural Center is a re-created Polynesian village, nestled by the lagoon of Haapiti. This picturesque village depicts the “old Tahiti” with its typical pandanus thatched-roof houses. There are several little huts where Polynesian women or men demonstrate mat weaving, Tiki carving, flower leis and crowns making, tatooing and other Polynesia crafts. The Tiki Village also has the best Polynesian dinner show on the island. Tickets and transportation can be set up via the concierge desk of your resort.

Moorea Dolphin Center

Moorea Dolphin Center

The Moorea Dolphin Center (formerly Dolphin Quest) at the Moorea InterContinental Resort & Spa offers a unique setting to not only see and learn about dolphins, but to get up-close and personal with them. The center has group and private dolphin programs that allow guests to swim in the lagoon with bottleneck dolphins. There are also couples programs sure to be the highlight of your Moorea honeymoon!

Dolphin & Whale Watching

Moorea Whale Watching

The research team of the Island and Research Center and Environmental Observatory on Moorea offer dolphin watching boat tours to observe and learn all about dolphins living outside Moorea. These tours offer a scientific approach to observing spinner dolphins in their natural habitat. During the months of July through September you may also get the opportunity to see humpback whales on their annual mating migration. Bring your snorkeling gear to get up close and personal with the beautiful underwater world of the Moorea lagoon.

4×4 Safari

Moorea Tour

Several tour companies offer half-day 4×4 through the heart of Moorea. Most will include the previously mentioned Belvedere lookout and archeological sites. You’ll also get to visit pineapple plantations, Magic Mountain and the Fruit Juice Factory & Distillery. ATV tours are also offered.
